German Films at Buenos Aires Film Festival

The Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) will be celebrating its 10th jubilee from April 8-20, 2008 under the new director Sergio Wolf.

Numerous German films as well as German-international co-productions will be participating this year, including an extensive retrospective dedicated to the director Romuald Karmakar.


The German-Israeli co-production JAPAN JAPAN by Lior Shamriz will be screening in the Cinema of the Future competition.


The sidebar entitled Trayectorias will be showing THE EDGE OF HEAVEN (AUF DER ANDEREN SEITE) by Fatih Akin, DEAD GAYS - LIVING LESBIANS (TOTE SCHWULE – LEBENDE LESBEN) and TWO MOTHERS (MEINE MUETTER – SPURENSUCHE IN RIGA) by Rosa von Praunheim as well as the two documentaries ELDER BLOSSOM (HOLUNDERBLUETE) by Volker Koepp and DUST STAUB) by Hartmut
Bitomsky (DE/CH). In addition: I`M NOT THERE by Todd Haynes (US/DE).


ONE WHO SET FORTH - WIM WENDERS' EARLY YEARS (VON EINEM DER AUSZOG – WIM WENDERS FRUEHE JAHRE) by Marcel Wehn can be seen in the section Cine+Cine .

REVUE by Sergei Loznitsa (DE/RU/UA) and RECYCLE by Mahmoud Al Massa (JO/DE/NL/US) will be shown in La Tierra Tiembla .


Other sections are presenting THE SKY, THE EARTH AND THE RAIN by José Luis Torres Leiva (CL/DE/FR), LICENSE NUMBER ONE by Matilde Michanie (AR/DE), OTTO; OR, UP WITH DEAD PEOPLE by Bruce La Bruce (CA/DE) and MILKY WAYby Benedek Fliegauf (HU/DE).


The Romuald Karmakar Retrospective will present 21 works by the renowned filmmaker, including HAMBURG LECTURES (HAMBURGER LEKTIONEN), MANILA and THE DEATHMAKER (DER TOTMACHER).


Alongside Mar del Plata, the festival has established itself into one of the most important film festivals in South America. The event, which primarily focuses on young filmmakers and attracts a correspondingly young audience, is considered one of a kind in South America.
